Cosmetics and Body Care
Body care and cosmetics, while not "home" products are personal care products that we use in the home, put on our body, and inhale and absorb while using. They can also contain harmful toxins we should be aware of.
Body care products can contain preservatives, surfactants, harsh detergents, and chemicals that bind fragrance that are harmful to humans and the environment. Some cosmetics contain plasticizers (phthalates), lead and other dangerous and cancer-causing chemicals:
There are many resources and guides to further identify the toxicity/safety of various products:
- Nail polish contains toluene and phthalates.
- Antiperspirants contain aluminum.
- Toothpaste contains fluoride.
